What is Picture to People ?

"Picture to People" (P2P) is a huge Computer Graphics project. It was started to create new softwares able to make 2D drawing, 3D rendering, vexel drawing, text effects, photo effects, image filtering and other complex Computer Graphics operations. It has been made from scratch, including its low level Computer Graphics libraries like Maccala. Nowadays, most final features produced for this project are released as free online tools available from its official website. This blog talks about Computer Graphics, mainly concerning Picture to People development.

"Only who makes has true knowledge. Knowledge is control. True power depends on total control. Only who makes from scratch has the real power."

Making graffiti drawings from photos

Have you ever thought about turning your photos into graffiti images? Well, I have.

I'm researching a new tool to transform pictures into graffiti. The intention is to create a professional software that has many of the interesting features my graffiti text generator has. By the way, it is the most powerful and feature-rich of all my online graphic tools.

The software development is evolving well, so I already can show some preliminary sample images. Below you can see a regular photo and after a graffiti made using it. In this case, the background is a wood material.

Warping using mouse drag and drop - a better example

Warping with mouse can be used to create strange or funny images from photos or drawings. The functionality is intuitive, but depending on the result you want, you need to be patient and be good with mouse.

In fact, a most common use of it for professional design is like a auxiliary tool for photo retouching. Many times it can't be use lonely for this task because it's able to remove some kinds of regions only marginally.

First you see the original part of a face and after a warped version of the same image. I created the example above with some dozens of individual warping operations using my mouse. The tool configuration used was deep in path and very restrict in neighborhood.

Would you like to try it to see how you would deal with this kind of tool?

Real-time warping just using mouse

I'm developing a tool to let final user warp bitmaps.

Each deformation is made in real-time just using mouse drag and drop. No grids, no control points. I think it can't be easier or more intuitive. The warping is local, directed, and affect only the region around the mouse (and its path).

I have already made an example to show here. First you see a normal "a". After you see the same letter "a" warped by my model. This second image was created playing a lot with the original image. It's the result of a lot of accumulative warpings made with mouse.

This tool is getting great, but it still need some more improvement and some degree of configuration too. I'm working on it.

Warping shapes 3

Now I can use heterogeneous shapes inside unidirectional warping fields. The calculations are more robust too.

My warping tools are enough for now ...

I need to pay attention to curves again.

Warping shapes 2

Warping using a unidirectional field is already working for non-degenerated shapes.

The intensive calculations bring some problems about approximations. I'm mapping some noise distortions in results.

I'm studying some alternatives to mitigate the problem, but anyway the tools for warping need to go forward.

Warping shapes

I'm developing tools to warping shapes. I desire to be able to make it in a well parametrized way.

This kind of operation is much more complex and brings new challenges.

There is a lot to project and code yet, but the results start to come: the picture shows a star warped.

After the operation and painted in green, it can be used like a plant leaf.
